Barton Motors Pty Ltd trading as Bartons Holden, Bartons Mitsubishi, Bartons Hyundai and Bartons Subaru.
Doug’s father Ken Barton together with long time friend Alf Giles founded G & B Motors in 1945. The business operated as mechanical engineers and repairers in the Wynnum area.
G & B Motors were appointed sub dealers to Ford Distributor Coachcraft Ford and in 1951 they became sub dealers to Holden Distributor Eagers.
G & B Motors became franchised Holden dealers in their own right. Ken Barton remained Dealer Principal until 1964 when John Harrison was made a partner.
Doug Barton joined G & B Motors in 1973 and was appointed Dealer Principal in 1981.
Doug Barton purchased the business and changed the name to Doug Barton Pty Ltd trading as Doug Barton Holden.
The Mitsubishi franchise was added to the existing Holden site.
Doug Barton Pty Ltd was changed to Barton Motors Pty Ltd when Brian Oldfield became a shareholder & director.
Mark Beitz joined the company in 2001. He was appointed General Manager in 2004 and Dealer Principal in 2007.
A major dealership renovation project was completed giving the business “State of the Art Facilities”. We were opened by the “late” Peter Brock
Doug Barton Holden & Mitsubishi was replaced by Bartons Holden & Bartons Mitsubishi as the trading names and the name Bartons Bayside was introduced.
Dealer Principal Mark Beitz became a Director & Shareholder.
Doug Barton and Mark Beitz acquired Brian Oldfield’s shares in the company. Doug and Mark are the sole Shareholders and Directors of Bartons.
Bartons acquired from the Automotive Holdings Group (Zupps), the Redlands prime market area for Mitsubishi, continuing to operate from Wynnum.
Bartons acquired the Hyundai Franchise at Wynnum and commenced trading from temporary facilities until the completion of a new Dealership.
Bartons acquired from the Automotive Holdings Group (Zupps), Capalaba Subaru, located on Old Cleveland Road, Capalaba. Mitsubishi was then reinstated to this operation and we now trade as Bartons Mitsubishi and Subaru Capalaba.
Stage 1 of the Bartons Wynnum facilities upgrade was completed with a $2 million investment into Holden and Mitsubishi.
Bartons Wynnum acquires Nissan Franchise from Wynnum Manly Nissan.
Bartons Holden at Wynnum has consolidated with Bartons Holden and is now base out of Capalaba. All purchases are now at the Capalaba site. After becoming a Holden Dealer franchise in 1961, Holden took pride and place at Wynnum for 57 Years winning many distinguished dealer awards over this time.
Bartons now have Hyundai at Capalaba. We acquired the franchise from Keema Cleveland and have moved the brand to our Capalaba Mega Site.
Bartons Have recently acquired the Cleveland Nissan site at the beginning of August and welcome the current staff to the Bartons Group.
